PA – Orthopaedics, Ohio Valley Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine
(Cincinnati, Ohio)
General
Description: Community based musculoskeletal practice is looking for
its second full-time Physician Assistant. Previous orthopaedic experience is required.
Requirements
Include: Current licensure with the state of Ohio as a physician
assistant; Completion of an accredited PA Program; Bachelor of Science Degree
preferred; Strong surgical skills needed; and Good verbal & written
communication skills important.
General
Schedule: 5 or 6 half days per week of office care
3 or 4 half
days per week of surgery
Some weekend
rounding and some after office hours call
Compensation: Base Salary plus incentive bonus with an
excellent benefits package
PA will work largely with two established, general
orthopaedic physicians. Cases include: shoulders, knees, total joints (largely
primary joints) and fracture care. The PA will carry his/her own patient load.
General
Description: The
PA provides medical care under the supervision of a physician in the practice
and according to the protocols of the practice physicians. The responsibilities
of the PA may include some or all of the following duties: Perform initial
evaluations, either independently or in conjunction with the physician * Order
and evaluate x-rays, MRIs and CTs * Perform closed reduction of fractures and
dislocations * Perform joint aspiration and injections * Casting, splinting and
fitting for DME * Prescribe medications appropriately and manage prescription
refill requests * Monitor physical and/or occupational therapeutic services *
Respond to patient phone calls to facilitate patient care delivery * Respond to
medical emergencies * Educate patients and family on diagnosis, treatment and
prevention and review test results and report back to the physician.
Assist
Surgical Scheduler with surgery details and ensure that the appropriate
equipment is ordered, including contacting reps as necessary * Dictate history
and physicals for all hospital admissions * Dictate discharge summaries for all
hospital discharge patients * Work with the on call physician by triaging calls
from service and availing self to assist at surgery when necessary * Assist the
physician in surgical procedures * Prep patients * Assist during procedure *
Close wounds * Write post-operative orders * Complete all necessary paperwork
for billing of services * Make rounds on all hospitalized patients * Call
patients recently discharged from the hospital * Obtain hospital privileges at
all hospitals/ASCs where practice physicians have privileges * Provide event
coverage at high school sporting events (very limited basis) * Coordinate care
with athletic trainers and physical therapists *
Avail self to ER and assist with identifying orthopedic related conditions and
treat patients accordingly.
